Sundown Marathon 2012
seriously, a major disappointment for this run. disappointed not on Sundown, but on myself who did not complete the run.
for once, i finally brought up the courage the join the 42km full marathon, and yet i am unable to finish it. yes this was the first time that i am unable to complete the run. my first 42km, my first time going back empty-handed. suddenly felt so lost =/

dinner at Cafe Cartel before the run.

and bumped into long-time-no-see ex GV friends
Kelvin and Peng Hong!!

wheeeee.. i missed them so much!
and yea, after that we made our way to the starting point at Nicoll Highway. our run will be starting at 12.30am, but there's too crowded that we decided to wait till the crowd is gone before we head over to the starting point.
yes, we waited and delayed till almost like 1am before we started our long night run.

the surroundings

our running bib
before we start...
and yeahh, finally we decided to start at around 1am.the slow and quiet night breeze, the calm surroundings, no nice scenery to see because it's night time. but the it's a familiar Marina running route. everything is going on smoothly until we reached the Marina Barrage area.
天有不测之风云. dark clouds, strong wind, heavy rain, lightning strike, thunder storm. we got stucked and quickly ran to the nearest bus stop at Marina Barrage to seek shelter. it's a very sudden rain, and everyone was stucked and squeezed together in the small little bus stop.
alot decided to stop and wait for the rain to stop, but there's still some who decided to go on in such horrible weather. kudos to them, but really.... it was very dangerous!

sms received from the organiser.
we thought the rain would stop, but it did not. we were stucked at the bus stop for hours since 3am. we waited and waited, the rain never stop. instead, it got heavier and heavier. we were all shivering with cold, and what's worse someone suddenly fainted. it's like a fits attack or what i do not know. it's pretty scary when his eyes suddenly rolled up.
the road marshals stationed at the bus stop helped to call first-aider, but we waited for one hours plus. no one came. people started complaining already, what took the first-aider so long? we waited until the man regain consciousness already and then, after not long that man fainted for the second times! like what the hell, where is the first-aider? in the end, someone called the ambulance instead of waiting for the organiser to take action.
and the most horrible things are... the booklet said the road will opened after 4am, but then the workers are already removing those road barriers at around 3.20am and cars were already allowed to move freely in.
we see big trucks, big lorries, cars, motorbikes. it's like wth?! its equivalent to telling us that all of us GOOD GAME already. time to pack up, go home and sleep. that's the end to all of us! no need to run anymore.
soon, we see the bus stop getting lesser and lesser people. people either called for cab, or called their parent to drive in and drove them home. we waited and waited for the bus to come in and fetch us back since there's no way we can continue.
finally after 2.5 hours, at around 5.30am. the bus came in the end. and that young teenage boy inside the bus was like saying to us, "are you all the participants who give up on the run?" the rest of the participants at the bus stop was like, "WHAT?! do we have a choice? you guys reopened the road way before the said time and you said we gave up?!".
like what? he still can say, "the run is still on, you guys can continue to run if you want". HEY BOY, you want us to run with trucks and lorries driving beside us and then to end our life like that?" if we are over at east coast park then i got nothing to say. but we are still like 4km of road route to clear before we are safe from the vehicles!
well, boarded the bus and they fetched us back to Nicoll Highway to collect our bags. looks like there's alot of us unable to complete the race. walked across the super muddy and full of trap grass patch to collect our bags, and my whole feet submerged fully inside one of the trap hole. like yucks, my poor yellow shoes!!!!!! go home have to scrub it clean clean =/

sighh, the fully drenched look.
well, in the end we got nothing. no medal, no finisher tee! NOTHING! we cleared at least one third of the run at 14km and then poof.. everything gone! we should have run in the rain..... hahaha bullshit lah us, say so much but we did not. LOL.. one day...one day i will complete 42km!! that day will come!

the incomplete Sundown!
